From Rupert Sheldrake
In my last newsletter, I mentioned that Alex Tsakiris and I were looking for developers in the US to help implement an automated telephone telepathy test. I am happy to say that two groups are now working on systems that will enable people in North America to participate in this experiment. The present system, accessed through the online experiments portal on my web site, works only in the UK.
On Monday April 19 I am taking part in a dialogue in London with Brother David Steindl-Rast on ”Reinventing the Sacred” at 7pm, Maria Assumpta Centre, Kensington, organized by the British Scientific and Medical Network. Details at http://www.scimednet.org/reinventing-the-sacred/
I am currently recruiting more Research Helpers in the UK to help with the mobile telephone precognition test, so if you are interested, or know anyone who might be, please take a look at the details accessed through the Stop Press column on my home page.
At present I am working on a new edition of DOGS THAT KNOW WHEN THEIR OWNERS ARE COMING HOME. Since the first edition was published in 1999 I have received more than two thousand further accounts of unexplained animal behaviour, and some of the most impressive concern parrots. I am planning to include an extra chapter on ”Psychic Parrots” in the new edition, so if you have any interesting parrot stories, please send them soon.
I am giving two workshops in North America this year, one at the Esalen Institute in California, from September 3-5, and the other at Hollyhock on Cortes Island, BC, one of my favourite places, on ”A New Science of Life: Morphic Resonance,Creativity and Consciousness” from August 19-23. http://www.hollyhock.ca/cms/index.cfm?Group_ID=4387 I will be summarizing evidence for morphic resonance and the extended mind, inviting participants to take part in some simple experiments and exercises that explore our relationship with each other and the natural world, and also plan to take the group to some of the most beautiful places on the island, including a visit to a forestry experiment I am helping to coordinate.
I recently took part in a debate with Richard Wiseman, one of Britain’s leading media skeptics, about telepathy and other psychic phenomena. The debate is posted in both audio and text format on the Skeptiko website here http://www.skeptiko.com/rupert-sheldrake-and-richard-wiseman-clash/.
Ted Dace, an excellent essayist, has recently written a piece on ”The Anti-Sheldrake Phenomenon” which is on my web site here: http://www.sheldrake.org/Articles&Papers/articles/Dace_Anti-SheldrakePhenomenon.html
This month’s trialogue is on ”Psychedelics and Mathematical Vision”, initiated by Ralph Abraham, and is summarized by Paddy Rose-Price, the trialogues editor, as follows: Exploring the connection between mathematics and the experience of the logos. The psychedelic and computer revolutions of the 1960s helped cause the rebirth of mathematics. Maths as a language of space-time pattern. To what extent could the psychedelic vision of the logos be externalised through supercomputers? Will this technology enable us to communicate and share our experience of space-time pattern? Computer-graphic displays lack the emotional intensity of a psychedelic experience. In what ways can mathematical vision serve the spirit and extend the mind?
